What's new
0.7.7
- CastCut now speaks German, Spanish, French and Portuguese. If your Mac is set to one of them, CastCut offers it once, or pick one anytime in Settings.
- Paused plans: Settings now shows when your plan pauses and resumes, and exporting comes back the moment you resume.
- Longer plans now work longer without internet: three months on annual and six months with a founding license, so editing on the road never gets interrupted.
- CastCut now checks your free disk space before a long edit or video, and tells you up front if your Mac needs more room, instead of stopping halfway.
- When something goes wrong, you get a short report number to quote to support, so we can find and fix it fast. (Only if you share anonymous usage counts.)
- Settings text no longer gets cut off on smaller screens.
0.7.6
- Fix: on some Macs the multicam edit could stop with "Process crashed". CastCut now picks up where it stopped and finishes the edit on its own, and remembers what works on that Mac. If it ever can't, one click sends a short report so it gets fixed fast.
- The founding license has sold out. Thank you to everyone who got one: it keeps working exactly as before.
- getcastcut.com now speaks German, Spanish, French and Portuguese, and offers your language when you visit.
0.7.5
- Much faster multicam edits. CastCut now uses more of your Mac at once, so a bigger Mac finishes sooner, and seated shows go faster still. On a 20-minute, three-camera test the whole edit went from 96 to 23 seconds, and to 37 seconds with Cooler processing on. Same edit either way.
- Cameras recorded together are matched to the right person more reliably.
- Files recorded together line up at once. When one device records every camera and mic together (a RØDECaster Video, an ATEM ISO, a multitrack recorder), CastCut sees they already match and skips the sync search.
- More say over the cuts. A new Very fast style keeps shots short, and Lean on, under Settings, Camera cutting, picks the shot the edit favors: close-ups, balanced, or the wide shot. Leaning on the wide shot shows the room more often and holds it longer.
- Quick back-and-forth no longer sits on the wide shot for minutes: after the time set in Wide shot after, the edit shows whoever is talking, then goes back to the room.
- Hover Style or Lean on to see each choice play out before you pick it.
- Roomier Settings, Multicam notes and Moments options, easier to read at a glance.
0.7.4
- No editing app needed: CastCut can now make the finished video itself. Choose Export video for the full episode (landscape, vertical or both) and Export reels for your moments.
- Captions on your videos: one clean line, kept clear of the TikTok and Reels buttons. Pick any font on your Mac, with a soft shadow or a dark box behind the words.
- The sound comes out balanced and at the loudness YouTube, Spotify and the reel apps expect.
- Send to iPhone: AirDrop a finished video to your phone or iPad and post it from there.
- Choose where you finish under Settings, Finish in. Final Cut Pro, Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve work exactly as before, and any episode can still go to any of them.
- Videos made during the free trial carry a small getcastcut.com mark. Any plan makes them clean.
- The Multicam page previews the vertical edit too. In vertical, the cleanup, captions and timeline sit right beside the tall picture, and on solo episodes the list of cuts fills the space under the camera.
- Scrub through any moment with the bar under its preview, and drag the panel's edge to make the preview bigger. The Multicam picture grows the same way.
- Moments start and end on cleaner lines, without a half-finished thought.
- Clearer messages when a file is still in iCloud or the disk is full, and tidier Settings and Moments pages on every window size.
0.7.3
- Play any moment on the Moments page the way its short will look. It stops at the end.
- Pausing or dragging the preview shows the exact frame, and the preview plays every mic.
- Ums and uhs are caught far more often, without cutting real words.
- Solo now works with a single camera too: it switches between the full shot and a gentle zoom in the pauses.
- Wireless kits recorded with one person on each side tell who is talking, and so does a phone sitting right next to one person.
- New option: mute each person's mic while they are quiet (Settings, Timeline). Off unless you turn it on.
- Group shots: everyone gets their own place in the picture, and CastCut only zooms in on someone when it is sure who is talking.
- Shorts start and end on cleaner sentences.
- Updates are smaller and pick up where they stopped if the connection drops.
- Optional anonymous usage counts, off unless you say yes. Your footage, words and file names never leave your Mac.
0.7.2
- Episodes recorded in several takes come out as one edit. Drop every file at once: CastCut puts the takes in the order they were recorded, and you can leave one out or move it on the Media page.
- Each take is cut with its own cameras and sound, everyone keeps their name in every take, and your editor gets a marker where each take begins.
- Sony camera clips (A6400, ZV-E10, FX3 and more) now link in DaVinci Resolve and Premiere Pro.
- Where people look counts: the edit follows the camera someone is talking to, and skips a shot of the back of their head.
- Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve are out of beta.
- Open-source notices under Settings, About.
0.7.1
- Big shoots, up to 16 cameras: files from cinema cameras open, and every angle gets used.
- Cameras that recorded no sound of their own still line up with the rest.
- Better sound when there is no recorder: CastCut picks the camera that sounds best, and you can choose another on the Multicam page.
- When each phone has its own mic, every voice gets its own track.
- A missing or unreadable file no longer stops the edit. It is left out, and CastCut says why.
- Faster on big shoots, and AI features download more reliably.
0.7.0
- Split screen: two people on screen at once, side by side in landscape and stacked in vertical and shorts. For the whole episode, or only when both talk.
- Split screen needs no wide shot, everyone keeps their seat, and both faces come out the same size.
- Each half arrives on its own layer in Final Cut Pro, Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve, so any moment can go back to a single shot.
- Pick the angles: tick which cameras and zooms the edit may use, for the episode and every short.
- Bilingual captions (beta): the spoken words with a translation under them, in English, Filipino and eight more languages, made on your Mac.
- Captions and translation sit right where you export, and Export Transcript follows your caption choice.
- Framing follows people who move, so shots never end up on an empty chair.
- Moments finds more in casual conversation, and Taglish captions keep words and numbers whole.
- Hover a setting to see what it does. Changes apply instantly, and anything that takes minutes asks first.
0.6.5
- Prices in your currency: in the Philippines, plans show in pesos, the same amount the checkout charges.
- The plans screen shows how much editing your free exports already saved.
- Each plan button opens that exact plan in checkout.
0.6.4
- Shorts in every shape you post: 9:16, 4:5, 1:1 and 16:9. Tick as many as you like, and each moment comes out once per shape.
- The landscape episode and horizontal shorts are always 16:9, even from a 4:3 camera app.
- Choose cleanup and captions before the edit. Only what you tick is worked on, so a multicam-only edit stays quick.
- Much more careful cleanup of repeated takes and false starts.
- Licenses are more secure. Nothing changes for you: same key, same Macs.
0.6.3
- Footage from Blackmagic Cam, Android phones and other variable frame rate cameras lands on the right frames in every editor, with no missing media at the end.
- Tighter sync that holds from start to finish, and the same files always give the same edit.
- The tips email only shows after your very first export on the free trial.
0.6.2
- Solo is on the Media page, and CastCut offers it when it sees the same person on every camera.
- Phones whose clock runs far off, like some Pixels, sync on their own.
- No more tiny shots in a solo edit when a camera starts late.
0.6.1
- Solocasts: one person filmed from two or more angles. Turn on Solo episode and CastCut cuts between every angle at natural pauses. Two-person and panel episodes are edited as before.
0.6.0
- Play edit: watch the cut inside CastCut before you export. Space plays and pauses.
- Process several episodes in one go from All episodes.
- Ums and ahs are found far more reliably, and the cleanup checkboxes apply at once.
- Captions: 1, 2 or 3 lines, TikTok and Reels presets for shorts, optional speaker names, and separate switches for the episode and shorts.
- Cleaner timelines, and shorts that keep their last word.
- After every export, a summary of what CastCut took out.
0.5.2
- Timelines are named after your episode: the full episode, its vertical version and every short.
- Vertical stays on the person speaking instead of squeezing the whole room into a phone screen.
- Moment titles and descriptions stay in the language your episode is spoken in.
- Settings are laid out more evenly, and DaVinci Resolve shorts with a % in the title export.
0.5.1
- Simpler Settings: CastCut picks the best setup for your Mac by itself.
- Smoother AI features setup. If you already have them, nothing downloads twice.
- Shorter, clearer logs when you send feedback.
0.5.0
- Three or more people on one mic are told apart, and each voice is matched to the right face on a single wide camera.
- Speaker names you type stick.
- Captions only: a Final Cut timeline with nothing but the captions, in Filipino or any of 90+ languages. File > Export Transcript.
- Cooler processing keeps fanless MacBooks cooler.
- Every export arrives as layers you can re-cut, in landscape, vertical and shorts.
0.4.9
- 720p cameras get close-ups too, with a warning that they look softer.
- Every export arrives as layers you can re-cut: each camera and each person zoomed from the wide.
- CastCut remembers the people on your show. Name them once and the next episode names them for you.
- Cameras keep their role between episodes, and Export when done takes one click from files to Final Cut.
- Episodes open on the wide shot, and the cuts feel more natural.
- Sharper previews, a full Mac menu bar, Send feedback, client presets and caption looks, and how much editing time each episode saved.
- Fixed a crash after Multicam edit ready and a few layout glitches.
0.4.8
- CastCut tells you when an update is out, with what is new and one click to install.
- Settings rebuilt as cards, with related settings together.
- Number settings no longer change when you scroll past them.
- A clearer Storage view, with Show in Finder on every row.
0.4.7
- Captions travel inside the Final Cut Pro timeline, Filipino included, so there is nothing to type in yourself.
- Cooler processing keeps your Mac cooler and quieter, and normal mode is faster on every Mac.
- A quiet third person on a wide shot is recognized more reliably.
- Settings shows how much space CastCut uses, with a way to remove the AI features.
- Fixes to the sidebar, moment thumbnails and discount codes, and every plan now says plainly that it includes every update.
0.4.6
- Three or more people on one wide camera each get their own close-up, in landscape and vertical.
- Vertical exports re-frame on whoever is talking.
- Close-ups work on 1080p and 720p cameras too, and CastCut tells you when one may look soft.
- Set who each face on a wide shot is, from the Media page.
- Spoken language setting: English, Filipino and many more. A conversation that mixes two languages no longer switches partway through.
- A walkthrough on first launch, Help everywhere, audio-only episodes handled properly, and downloads that resume after a dropped connection.
0.4.5
- Manage subscription opens your account again, and older licenses show their plan right away.
0.4.4
- Export the transcript as a Word document, plain text, or SRT and VTT subtitles, with your speakers named.
- Settings shows your plan, when it renews, and Manage subscription.
- A new installer window, and a download about a third smaller.
0.4.3
- Drag and zoom the window from anywhere along the top, like any Mac app.
- Manage episodes: select, rename, remove or move them to the Trash. Your recordings are never touched.
- The sidebar folds down to icons, and everything fits from a small window to full screen.
0.4.2
- All your episodes in one place, each saved as you go.
- Save the timeline file anywhere. Every file name says which app it is for.
- Final Cut Pro no longer misses the edit when it was closed.
- Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve get each camera's own sound too, in sync and muted.
- Check for updates, a project folder you choose, a cleaner window and a new icon.
0.4.0
- Export to Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve (beta), alongside Final Cut Pro.
- The Final Cut Pro timeline opens in Final Cut Pro 10.6 and every later version.
- Updates install from inside the app.
- Clearer pricing and license screens, and faster exports.
0.3.0
- Cleanup: long silences, ums and ahs, false starts and repeated takes, each one reviewable.
- Faster, tighter sync.
- Free trial, licenses and update notices.
