CastCut › One camera podcasts
Make a one-camera podcast look like a multicam shoot
One wide camera, two or more people. CastCut crops a close-up for each person out of the wide shot, cuts between them as they talk and comes back to the wide when everyone joins in.

How one camera becomes several angles
CastCut finds every face in your wide shot and makes a framed close-up for each person, as if a second and third camera had been pointed at them. Then it cuts the way an editor would: to the person talking, back to the room for crosstalk and quick back-and-forth, and to the room now and then during long answers.
- Close-ups that follow. If someone leans in, turns or walks around, their close-up moves with them and holds still when they do.
- Vertical clips framed on the speaker for Reels, TikTok and Shorts, cut from the same wide shot.
- Split screen when both talk, side by side in landscape and stacked in vertical, if you turn it on.
Our own Built by DJP episode was filmed on a single iPhone during a haircut, with nobody behind the camera.
Shoot it so the close-ups look sharp
- Film in 4K if your camera can. A close-up cut out of a 4K wide keeps 1080 lines of detail. From 1080p it keeps 720, and from 720p it keeps 540, which looks soft.
- Keep everyone in frame and lit, with a little room above their heads.
- Lock the camera down on a tripod or a table stand.
- Any microphone works, even the camera's own. A recorder or a mic per person sounds better, and CastCut lines it up by sound.
What you get
The finished episode and reels as MP4 files, made right in CastCut, or an editable timeline in Final Cut Pro, Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve with each person's close-up on its own layer. See finishing without an editing app.
Add a camera later
When you add a second or third camera, nothing changes in how you work. CastCut uses the real cameras first and the close-ups out of the wide where they help.
Questions
Can a podcast filmed on one camera look like multicam?
Yes. CastCut makes a framed close-up for each person out of the wide shot and cuts between them as they talk, so a single camera edits like two or three.
How many people can share one camera?
Two to four work well. Each person gets their own close-up, in landscape and in vertical.
Will the close-ups look blurry?
From 4K they stay sharp. From 1080p they are fine for phones and most screens. From 720p they look soft, and CastCut tells you before it uses them.
Can I use an iPhone as the one camera?
Yes. Film in 4K on a tripod with everyone in frame. The iPhone microphone works.
Do I need editing software?
No. CastCut exports the finished episode and reels as video files. Final Cut Pro, Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve are optional.
