Who this is for
Hosts who record their own show. Coaches, consultants, pastors, real estate agents and small business owners who film conversations for their audience. Anyone who has the footage but not the hours, or the patience, to sit in an editing app every week.
What you do
- Drop in your recordings. The camera files and the audio, or the whole folder. Footage from phones works.
- Click Make multicam edit. CastCut lines everything up by sound, learns who is talking and cuts to them. A minute or two on a recent Mac.
- Click Export video. You get the full episode as an MP4, in landscape, vertical or both.
- Click Export reels. Your best moments come out as short videos with captions, ranked best first.
- Send to iPhone. AirDrop the videos to your phone or iPad and post from there.
What the finished video looks like
- Cuts on whoever is talking, and the wide shot when people talk over each other.
- No dead air. Long silences, ums and false starts come out if you tick them, and every cut is listed so you can keep any of them.
- Captions on one clean line, kept clear of the TikTok and Reels buttons, in any font on your Mac.
- Balanced sound at the loudness YouTube, Spotify and the reel apps expect.
- The size you need: match your camera, 4K, 1080p or 720p.
One camera is enough
No second camera? CastCut gives each person their own close-up out of a single wide shot and cuts between them. See one camera podcasts and podcasts filmed on iPhone.
When you outgrow it
The same edit also opens in Final Cut Pro, Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve with every angle on its own layer. If you hire an editor later, hand them that timeline instead of raw files.
What it costs
Your first 2 exports are free, with everything unlocked. After that it is $14 a month or $99 a year, with no limit on episodes. A freelance editor usually charges $100 to $500 to cut one video podcast episode.
Questions
Do I need Final Cut Pro, Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve?
No. CastCut makes the finished episode and reels as MP4 video files itself. Those apps are only for people who want to adjust the edit by hand.
Do I need any editing experience?
No. You add your files and click Make multicam edit, then Export video. The pace of the cuts and which shot it leans on are simple choices in Settings if you want them.
Can I use footage from my iPhone?
Yes. One iPhone, two iPhones or a phone with a camera all work. CastCut lines them up by sound, so it does not matter when each one started recording.
Are the captions accurate?
They are transcribed on your Mac in more than 90 languages, timed word for word. AI makes the cuts and the captions, so give each video a quick watch before you post.
Does it work on Windows, an iPad or in a browser?
No. CastCut runs on Apple silicon Macs (M1 or newer) with macOS 14 or later. The finished videos go to your iPhone or iPad with AirDrop.
Is my video uploaded anywhere?
No. Everything runs on your Mac, so private conversations stay private.
